David Guetta cancels concert in Bangalore due to police concerns

French DJ David Guetta was scheduled to perform tonight in Bangalore but organisers announced via Facebook that his set will not take place. Guetta was the main act of the Sunburn festival which is an electronic dance music festival held in various locations in India. The festival has been running since 2007 and this year Guetta was planning to perform in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi but various reasons for the Bangalore cancellation have been cited.

Organisers on the Sunburn official Facebook page announced that the reason the event is cancelled is due to the clash with the AMPC elections in the area. They further explained that due to the elections there wouldn’t be enough police at the event, therefore the local police have advised them to reschedule Guetta’s concert. Despite this statement the CEO of Sunburn Karan Singh has said “Due to the present law & order situation in Bengaluru following the events that transpired around New Year’s Eve, the authorities have recommended against holding the David Guetta concert scheduled today in the city.” Singh mentions the events that happened in Bangalore on New Year’s Eve during which numerous women reported cases of mass molestation and sexual assault.

Though varying reasons for the cancellation are circulating it has been announced that there are plans to reschedule the concert. David Guetta himself has yet to make a statement but has shared a photo of himself being greeted in Bangalore on Instagram and the rest of his India dates are still going ahead as planned.
