Padmaavat is an upcoming Bollywood movie that has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The movie stars Deepika Padukone, who plays Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Aditi Rao Hydan and Jim Sarbh.
‘Padmaavat’ recounts the tale of a legendary Mewar queen known as much for her beauty and intelligence as she was for her courage, her husband, a glorious Rajput ruler and a warrior king who fought till his dying breath to defend his kingdom and his wife’s honour, and an ambitious and obsessive invader, who left no stone unturned in his pursuit of the queen.
Based on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ground breaking opera, the film is steeped in India’s rich and vibrant culture, adorned with classical folk music and paying tribute to a glorious era.
The movie has had a lot of controversy surrounding it, and protests in India broke out to prevent the movie from releasing.
Padmaavat was originally meant to be released on 3rd December 2017, however due to the outbreaks around the movie it has now been pushed to the 25th January 2018.
