SOUTH AMERICA: WHERE SHOULD I BE SPENDING MY SUMMER?

This week, we’re exploring South America! The continent is thriving with culture and is a place that has so much on offer. From cultural events to historical ruins, there is so much to be part of in South America.

Beach

Uruguay has some beautiful beaches, accommodating for both relaxation and extravagance. Punta Del Diablo can fulfill your bohemian aesthetic. With its unpretentious, chilled out vibe, its the perfect surfer town for you to laze away.

Punta Del Diablo

Punta del Este, aptly dubbed ‘the Hamptons of South America’, is the opposite of chilled but it is perfect for those looking for a Miami-style beach holiday. If your style is more glamour than bohemian chic, this resort town is perfect for you!

Shopping

It’s not great for those bargains, but we really couldn’t give this spot to anywhere but Brazil’s Sao Paulo. International brands alongside Brazilian products and homemade wonders, there’s really nowhere that can compare to this metropolis.

Sao Paulo

Renown also for Sao Paulo Fashion Week, the largest and most important fashion event in Latin America, you can get the best and newest of the fashion world here.

Party

If there’s anywhere in the world where the party never ends, it has to be Rio. We had to use Brazil twice but really, Rio de Janiero has carnivals, street parties, clubs and nightlife – it’s the perfect place to lose yourself in the glitter, music and dancing.

Rio de Janiero

Start your evening one of the inconspicuous bars drinking Brazil’s signature cachaca cocktail, the caipirinha, and dancing to the sound of samba. Who knows where the night will take you?

Sights

For this one, we’re going to cheat a little and recommend that you do a comprehensive tour of the pre-Columbian America Inca Empire, which spanned the westernmost strip of the continent.

Machu Picchu

You can explore the ruins of Machu Picchu on a tour of the Sacreed Valley and Ollantaytambo ruins, follow the Inca trail by channelling your adventurous side, and have a look around Puno and La Paz just over the Cusco border into Bolivia.

Family time

There are so many places in South America that you can visit with family but try out Chile for an exploration of Latin America with your family! There’s so much to see in terms of wildlife: penguins, pumas, whales and condors.

Argentina

So much to do from hiking to kayaking and rafting in wild rivers, surfing and even horse riding on the dramatic trails. A particularly beautiful sight to enjoy with the whole family, old and young, is the Atacama desert at night, where you can gaze up at the starry night sky.

Active and Adventurous

Argentina’s Patagonia region is a great place to explore for the active and adventurous travellers. This summer you can delve into the various terrains of the end of the world, Patagonia, travelling through deserts, pampas, grasslands and mountains.

Chile

Here you can hike past herds of guanaco, hear giant shards of ice crash into the sea, sail the Beagle channel and explore the southernmost city in the world! Truly unforgettable!
