- Dangal
Bollywood is not usually renowned for its representation of women in film. However the contemporary wrestling film is unlike any other mainstream Bollywood film. Aamir Khan plays Mahvir Singh a former Indian amateur wrestler, who teachers his daughters Geeta Phogat and Bhabita Kumari. The film focuses on the girl’s journey to becoming India’s first female wrestler to win at the 2010 Commonwealth games. The film won four awards at the 62nd Filmfare Awards, Best Film, Best Director, Best Action and Best Actor. It’s definitely at the top of our lists!
- Raees
Raees stars Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pakistani actress Mahira Khan also makes her Bollywood debut. The film focuses on a SRK playing a bootlegger in Gujarat in the 80’s, who is challenged by a tough Indian cop. The film highlights the issues of alcohol, prostitution and illegal drugs in Gujarat at the time. The films will certainty open doors for Mahira, it’s also a different character role to what we’re used to see Shah Rukh Khan playing.
- Kaabil
This thriller is sure to grab everyone’s attention. Hrithik Roshan plays a blind man who falls in love with Supriya Bhatnagat, played by Yami Gautam. However the love affair takes a turn for the worst as Hrithik is forced to seek revenge for his wifes rape and murder. Due to its release date the film with is competing with SRK’s Raees. The film is to be released January 26th.
- Phillauri
Producer and actress Anushka Sharma features a love story with a character played by Diljit Dosanjh. The romantic comedy is a focused on a unique love story, as one of the characters is supposedly a ghost. Diljit is known for his roles in the Sardaar ji series, Jatt and Juliet and Udta Punjab. Anushka Sharma has also previously received critical praise for her performance in NH10. The film will be released in March 2017.
- Padmavati
This Bollywood film is a must see! The film is based during 1303 during the siege of the Chittor for in Rajasthan. Ranveer Singh plays Alauddin Khilji, a Turkic ruler whose ambition was to capture Queen Rani Padmini (played by Deepika Padukone), wife of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh (played by Shahid Kapoor). The film has been in the news last year due to its rumoured financial troubles and problems between the lead actors. BritAsia TV reported earlier on the week that Vin Diesel confirmed the relationship between Deepika and Ranveer. It’ll be interesting to see this couple on the big screen again in November 2017.
