UK Coronavirus Lockdown

Boris Johnson announced yesterday that the UK will be on lockdown, due to Covid – 19, meaning that people should not be leaving their homes under any cirmcumstances, unless vital.

To enforce these restrictions, police have been told to break up public gatherings and fine those who do not adhere, with social gatherings limited to two people. With shops, gyms, and places of worship already closed, social events including weddings, will be postponed. Places such as pharmacy’s, supermarkets and funeral homes will continue to stay open.

In his speech yesterday, Boris Johnson stated ‘From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction – you must stay at home. Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households. People will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes – which are shopping for basic necessities, doing one form of exercise a day, providing medical services, or going to work if it is absolutely vital’.

These restrictions have essentially sent the UK into lockdown, however, these enforcement measures are not as strict as other European countries, notably Italy and Spain. As of right now, people will not require paperwork to go outside, however, this will be reviewed in three weeks, depending on how quickly Covid – 19 worsens.

These enforced restrictions were made to keep the NHS in mind, hoping to prevent it from collapsing under pressure. Boris Johnson stated ‘To put it simply, if too many people being seriously unwell at one time, the NHS will be unable to handle it – meaning more people are likely to die, not just from coronavirus but from other illnesses as well.’

We urge our viewers to adhere to the Government guidelines, and most importantly, stay at home and stay safe.
