Vinod Khanna passes away

Bollywood legend Vinod Khanna has sadly passed away from cancer, at the age of 70.

Khanna made his Bollywood debut in 1968, fast becoming a Punjabi hero and film icon.

Unlike typical Bollywood stars, Khanna’s rise to fame took an unconventional route- instead of opting for ‘heroic’ roles; Khanna began his career as a ‘villain’.

To date, it is thought that the actor had starred in over 100 films.

His most popular performances included; Mere Apne (My Own), Mera Gaon Mera Desh (My Village, My Country), Gaddaar (Traitor) and cult classic Amar Akbar Anthony- where he appeared alongside Amitabh Bachhan and Rishi Kapoor.

In 1997, Khanna moved into politics, where he subsequently was elected to parliament four times.

After the news broke of the actor’s passing, heartbroken fans and stars took to social media to pay tribute.

Co-Star Rishi Kapoor wrote; “Remembering the good times with you, Vinod. Thank you for being my friend.”

Bollywood director, Karan Johar said; “His screen presence is unparalleled event today… his super star swag is what we grew up on… RIP #VinodKhanna … thoughts and prayers…”

Actor, Akshay Kumar also took to twitter and said: “Sad to learn about the passing away of #VinodKhanna Sir, one of the most charismatic actors…truly end of an era. Condolences to the family.”

Also, Amitabh Bachchan reportedly walked out of an interview soon after he heard the news of Khanna’s death to offer his condolences to the late actor’s family.

RIP to a true Bollywood legend, may his legacy live on through is work.
