A young boy from South London, named Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab died in King’s College Hospital early on Monday. He is thought to be the youngest person to have died with the virus in the UK.
His family said they were “beyond devastated”, and that he had no apparent underlying health conditions, but nevertheless, was tested positive for Covid – 19 on Friday after being admitted to hospital. He was put on a ventilator and then put into an induced coma but sadly died in the early hours of Monday morning.
Nick Triggle, a health correspondent for BBC Health, said it was rare for teenagers to become seriously ill after a Covid – 19 infection. However, this distressing case shows that everyone is at risk.
