AISHWARYA RAI VS DEEPIKA PADUKONE IN SABYASACHI MUKHERJEE: WHO WORE IT BEST?

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is a downright legend when it comes to Indian couture…

From sarees made with the finest silks to lenghas encrusted with crystals and heavy brocade embroidery, Sabyasachi never fails to impress.

Almost all of Bollywood’s biggest names have been spotted in a Sabyasachi before, but this time round it’s Aishwarya Rai-Bachan and Deepika Padkone, who have taken Instagram by storm in his famous creations.

First, Sabyasachi posted Aishwarya wearing ‘The Sabyasachi Red’ Matka saree from his Heritage collection at the Ganpati Festival in Lalbaugcha Raja. The stunning saree featured hand cut metal sequins and star detailing at the hem. This saree is far from understated but still makes a graceful choice for a religious festival.

Kneeling innocently in prayer, Aishwarya oozes in class, modesty and subtlety. A simple round red bindi, neatly slicked bun and traditional heavy gold earrings, finishes off her look perfectly.

Deepika, on the other hand, is in full-on glam mode as she poses for a photoshoot in a Benares Revival Saree with gold zari work. Also from the Heritage collection. This saree has a beautiful sheen finish and Deepika wears with ultimate poise and sophistication.

The statement emerald jewellery set is much more lavish and heavy than Aishwarya’s, and certainly has our heads turning with all that sparkle!

Chosen in the same colour as Aishwarya’s, we wonder if there’s some secret rivalry going on with these similar sarees or perhaps the pair can’t get enough  of ‘Sabyasachi Red’!

However, Deepika effortlessly captures the essence of the Sabyasachi brand- opulence, extravagance and refinement. It does seem a little unfair for us to choose who wore it best, when Deepika is so polished for the camera.

We think it’s fair to say both stars pulled off the traditional looks exceptionally well, and we hope an Aishwarya x Deepika shoot is in the works.
