BRITs Partner with TikTok to Allow Users to Power Votes for New Categories

The BRIT Awards 2022 will partner with social media giant TikTok, to power the public vote for four new categories in this year’s ceremony.

For the first time in 2022, the BRITs are introducing four new genre categories — with the winners to be voted for by the public.

The categories in full are:

  • Alternative/Rock Act
  • Dance Act
  • Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act
  • Pop/R&B Act

The categories have been introduced to spotlight the incredible British talent creating music within these genres.

The British public will be able to vote for the above award recipients via the TikTok app; and marks the first time the social media app will govern part of a UK awards show’s voting system.

Users will be able to access a dedicated BRITs hub on TikTok, with voting set to open today (20 January) at 12pm with voting closing at 6pm on 3 February.

A new hashtag, #BRITsTok, launched on TikTok’s Discover page last month with exclusive content from nominees including Nathan Evans, RAYE, Wolf Alice, Griff, Holly Humberstone, A1xJ1, Joy Crookes and Joel Corry.

Voting for the BRITs genre awards is now open for TikTok users:

The BRIT Awards 2022 will take place on Tuesday 8th February at The O2 in London. It will be hosted by Mo Gilligan, with Clara Amfo and Maya Jama set to present The BRIT Awards Red Carpet broadcast on ITV2.
