Deepika Padukone, first Bollywood actress to star in Louis Vuitton Campaign

Deepika Padukone has become the first Bollywood actress chosen to represent Louis Vuitton for their pre-fall 2020 campaign. Creative Director for women’s collections, Nicolas Ghesquière, cast Deepika alongside other global celebrities for this new campaign, including Chloë Grace Moretz, Sophie Turner and Emma Roberts.

The campaign is based on pulp horror movies and books, with Deepika featuring in fiction thriller, ‘Don’t Turn Around’, by Michelle Gagnon. Deepika shared the poster on Instagram, with the caption “I am beyond thrilled to be joining the Louis Vuitton family! To be a part of Nicholas Ghesquière’s vision for the world’s most iconic brand is not only exciting but also very humbling!” Her look features a black and white midi dress, turquoise boots and a grey overcoat– very stylish!

In the bigger context, Deepika’s partnership with a luxury, iconic brand represents the importance of not only India’s luxury audience, but the focus on overcoming issues surrounding diversity and inclusion within the fashion industry. Deepika discusses her involvement with this progressive movement, “It progresses in a way, but this is something that should have happened a long time ago. I feel proud that I am being considered as one of the people at the forefront of that change. One needs to commend the iconic brand in making this sort of historic move”.
