Did you know Dia Mirza took her stepfather’s surname before she participated in the Miss India pageant?

Dia Mirza recently opened up about her relationship with her biological father and her stepfather. The actress also revealed why she took her stepfather’s surname before participating in the Miss India beauty pageant in 2000.

In an interview with a news portal, Dia said that her stepfather Ahmed Mirza was a remarkable man and she loved him. The actress revealed that a lot of what she has learnt in life, especially the values that have held her in good stead are all values that he gave her. She added that they had a very beautiful relationship that started off as a friendship. Then as she grew older, she spent more years of her life with him, and he just became more and more her father. The actress added that this is why she took on his surname when she joined the Miss India pageant.

While Dia’s biological father died when she was nine, her stepfather died in 2003. Speaking further about her relationship with her stepfather, Dia said that it was amazing how he never tried to take her father’s place, but made his own place in her heart. The actress lost him as well when she was 23, and that was a huge loss because the security blanket that a father figure gives you in life, nobody else can. When you lose a father that young, and she had lost two fathers within one lifetime, it’s very hard.

Dia is married to Vaibhav Rekhi and she has a son named Avyaan Azaad Rekhi with him.

On the work front, the actress will next be seen in ‘Dhak Dhak’ which also stars Ratna Pathak Shah, Sanjana Sanghi and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead roles.
