DRESSING FOR AN OCCASION

Whether it’s for a wedding, baby shower or just an event you want to get dolled up for, there’s always an event to get dressed up for. I think dressing up is such a fun thing to do. I love finding new occasion wear for events and since my graduation is only round the corner I am on the hunt for occasional wear all the time.

However, today’s photo shoot comes from my time in London, in June for the Bloggers Ball. This was not necessarily a glam event since it was held during the afternoon of a pleasant Summer’s day but wearing something appropriate yet impressive was essential.

I spent the entire week prior to the event trying to find a dress that would showcase my sassiness but show brands and fellow bloggers my classiness and sophistication. At the end of the day these blogging events are as much about meeting impressing both like-minded people as they are meeting brands. It was a real dilemma on the look I wanted to go for, I love wearing navy. Most of my wardrobe is navy and I love it because it’s such a workable colour. It’s the colour that in my opinion defines smart casual because worn with some tan accessorises it’s a fabulous look.

My biggest pet hate however, is wearing this lovely colour with black. Just don’t do it. Wear with tan, brown or a nice bold colour but avoid black. If you’re wearing this combo just don’t come into my vicinity.

I found this dress from Anita and Green. I had never heard of his brand until my Mum and I were browsing the Next online resource. In the last few years Next, have been selling other brands both small and big. This is great, if you already have an account with the retailer because you can be experimenting with other clothing lines without giving out your banking details to, too many sources on the wide web. This is a lovely dress because it’s just a very fun yet smart dress. With the ruffled details it speaks to the current high street trends but with the tied sleeves it juxtaposes the current trend and makes it fun. I love this dress and will definitely be re-wearing it for future events and occasions.

I teamed the dress with a pair of sandal wedges from New Look. These are a staple pair of shoes for the summer because they add the height but still remain quite casual. I think a block heel is a great daytime height for heels. I then wore it with my go to handbag from Ralph Lauren because it’s a timeless bag that never dates and works brilliantly with any look both daytime formal and evening formal. Navy and tan is must do trend!

I felt wearing a quirky hair scarf with my favourite Marc Jacob’s sunnies would complement the look really nicely. I think this is an ideal smart casual option. The simplicity of the dress means it can be re-worn and re-worked many times without dating. It’s a timeless piece.
