A day after the murder of industrialist Darshan Singh Sahsi, gunshots were fired at Punjabi singer Channi Nattan’s house in Canada. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for both incidents, sparking major security concerns across the Indo-Canadian community.
The Indo-Canadian Punjabi community has been left shaken following a series of violent incidents linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, one of India’s most notorious criminal networks.
According to reports, gunfire erupted outside the residence of Punjabi singer Channi Nattan in Canada, just a day after the killing of Punjabi industrialist Darshan Singh Sahsi. The Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for both the murder and the shooting in what authorities are calling an alarming escalation of transnational gang activity.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, led by the jailed gangster of the same name, took credit for both attacks in a Facebook post made by Goldie Dhillon, a known associate of the gang. In his post, Dhillon alleged that Darshan Singh Sahsi was targeted for refusing to pay extortion money and for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Dhillon also claimed that the shooting at Nattan’s house was connected to singer Sardar Khera, warning others in the Punjabi music industry to avoid any association with him.
“The reason for the shooting at singer Channi Nattan’s house is Sardar Khera. Any singer who works with or has any connection with Sardar Khera in the future will be responsible for their own losses,” the post read.
“We have no personal enmity with Channi Nattan,” Dhillon added.
A 15-second video clip of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing multiple rounds of gunfire striking the property. It remains unclear whether anyone was inside the home at the time, and no injuries have been reported.
Police in Canada have since tightened security around potential high-profile targets within the Indo-Canadian community, including artists and business figures who may be under threat from the Bishnoi network.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang is one of the largest and most feared organized crime syndicates in South Asia. Despite Bishnoi’s imprisonment in India since 2014, he continues to orchestrate criminal operations from prison, with an extensive network of associates operating in India, Canada, and other countries with large Punjabi populations.
The gang first gained international attention after claiming responsibility for the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, a case that exposed the group’s global reach.
Canadian authorities have since designated the Bishnoi network a transnational criminal entity, citing its involvement in extortion, targeted killings, arms trafficking, and drug operations.
Both Canadian and Indian law enforcement agencies are now working closely to trace the connections between the murder of Darshan Singh Sahsi and the shooting at Channi Nattan’s residence.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage, digital communications, and financial records linked to the gang’s cross-border activities. Meanwhile, community leaders in Canada have urged calm while calling for stronger protection for Punjabi artists and business owners targeted by organized crime groups.
The attacks have sparked renewed discussions about gang influence within the Punjabi music industry, where artists are often subjected to threats and extortion attempts from international crime networks.
