A new fantasy universe inspired by Indian mythology and spiritual storytelling is set to make its global debut as Birmingham entrepreneur and music pioneer Gurd Chahal prepares to release his first novel, Cha’nir and the Light of Nam. The highly anticipated book blends ancient Indian philosophy, folklore and modern fantasy into what could become one of the most ambitious South Asian literary projects in recent years.
Set for worldwide release on 15 May 2026 as an eBook, followed by paperback and hardback editions on 2 June 2026, the novel introduces readers to a dark and mystical world where warrior gods, cosmic guardians and powerful warlords battle for the future of humanity.
At the heart of the story is Cha’nir, a young girl rescued during a collapsing age of darkness and raised on the sacred island of Lotus High, a bridge between Earth and the celestial realm of Muktiland. As evil forces attempt to unleash their imprisoned master from a black hole of fire, Cha’nir is forced to embrace her destiny and rise as a warrior capable of protecting humanity from destruction.
Drawing inspiration from Indian spiritual traditions and mythology, the novel explores themes of identity, courage, sacrifice and the eternal battle between good and evil. The concept of “Nam” plays a major role throughout the story, described as the divine vibration and universal force connecting all living beings.
Speaking about the project, Gurd Chahal described the novel as a deeply personal journey inspired by the storytelling traditions of his childhood in India. Growing up in a village environment before moving to Birmingham at the age of eight, Chahal recalls listening to stories told by elders and travelling sages under the stars, experiences that would later shape the foundation of the Sufy Epic universe.
Before turning to writing, Chahal built a successful career as an entrepreneur, music promoter and healthcare professional. He founded Chahalco, one of the UK’s largest live music networks, helping launch and support artists who would go on to shape the British Asian music scene. Over the years, he worked alongside legendary names including Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Gurdas Maan, Hans Raj Hans and Malkit Singh.

The world of Sufy Epic itself dates back to the late 1980s, originally beginning as a musical concept project before evolving into a full fantasy universe. According to the press release, the story is planned as a trilogy and will eventually expand into music, cinematic storytelling and film adaptations.
With fantasy franchises continuing to dominate global entertainment, Cha’nir and the Light of Nam aims to offer something rarely seen in mainstream fantasy, a universe rooted in Indian mythology, spirituality and South Asian storytelling traditions while still appealing to an international audience.
The debut novel is expected to attract strong interest from both fantasy readers and supporters of British Asian creative talent as Gurd Chahal officially steps into the literary world with a story decades in the making.
