Here’s what ‘Raksha Bandhan’ actress Bhumi Pednekar has to say about cancel culture in Bollywood

Actress Bhumi Pednekar is currently gearing up for the release of her film ‘Raksha Bandhan’ with Akshay Kumar. Directed by Aanand L Rai, it is slated to release on 11 August. Recently, in an interview, Bhumi shared her thoughts on the ongoing boycott and cancel culture on social media. Netizens have been trending #BoycottRakshaBandhan and #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha on Twitter. Akshay and Bhumi’s film received a massive backlash after netizens found writer Kanika Dhillon’s ‘Hinduphobic’ tweets.

While speaking to India Today, Bhumi said that the cancel culture has become very rampant. She also said that one has to acknowledge the fact that the internet, where, cancel culture thrives is a democratic space that has a lot of freedom. There will be good opinions and there will be bad opinions. She added that she only takes the positivity in. She called it bizarre and also hoped that this is just a phase.

Earlier, Akshay Kumar also spoke about it during a media event. He said, “There are few people who do these things. They’re doing mischief. That’s okay. It’s a free country. Everyone is allowed to do what they want. This helps the economy. It’s not going to make any sense when people do such things. We are all on the verge of making our country the biggest and the greatest. I would request them not to get into it. I would also request everyone not to highlight such things. It’s better for our country.”

Meanwhile, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ will be facing a clash with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
