Horror at Liverpool FC Victory Parade as Car Ploughs into Crowd

What began as a day of celebration for Liverpool FC’s historic Premier League triumph turned to tragedy on Monday, 26 May 2025, when a vehicle drove into a crowd of supporters on Water Street in Liverpool city center.

The incident occurred just after 6:00 PM BST, moments after the club’s open-top bus had passed through the area, and left 47 people injured, including four children.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as a grey vehicle accelerated into the densely packed crowd, many of whom were still reveling in the team’s record-equaling 20th league title. Video footage circulating online shows the car weaving through fans, some of whom were thrown into the air by the impact. Several bystanders rushed to confront the driver, smashing the car’s windows before police intervened and detained the suspect at the scene.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a 53-year-old white British man from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Authorities have stated that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related and that no other suspects are being sought. Counter-terrorism officers are assisting with the investigation as a precaution.

Emergency services responded rapidly, with 27 people taken to hospital – two of whom, including a child, are in serious condition. Another 20 individuals received treatment for minor injuries at the scene. Four people, including one child, had to be rescued from beneath the vehicle by fire crews.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called the incident “appalling” and thanked emergency services for their swift response, while Liverpool FC issued a statement expressing their thoughts and prayers for those affected36. The city’s mayor, Steve Rotheram, praised the community’s resilience and urged anyone with information or footage to come forward as the investigation continues.

The incident cast a dark shadow over what had been a jubilant day for Liverpool, with hundreds of thousands of fans lining the streets to celebrate the club’s latest triumph. As authorities continue their inquiries, the city remains united in support of the victims and their families.
