JioHotstar has officially launched in the UK, bringing a major new streaming destination to British audiences with thousands of hours of South Asian films, television, original series and reality entertainment. The platform arrived in the UK on 2 September 2026, marking the first stage of JioHotstar’s international expansion. Viewers can now explore more than 160,000 hours of premium entertainment across over 12 Asian languages, with around 30,000 hours of new content expected to be added each year.
For British South Asian audiences, the launch brings a huge variety of entertainment together in one place, spanning blockbuster films, original productions, popular television programmes, reality shows and family entertainment.
Bigg Boss Brings Live Voting to UK Fans
One of the biggest highlights of JioHotstar’s UK arrival is a new interactive experience for Bigg Boss fans. From 6 September, several editions of the reality franchise will be available, including Bigg Boss Hindi with Salman Khan, Bigg Boss Malayalam with Mohanlal, Bigg Boss Tamil hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, Bigg Boss Telugu with Nagarjuna and Bigg Boss Kannada with Kichcha Sudeepa. Bigg Boss Bangla is also part of the platform’s offering.
For the first time, audiences in the UK will be able to take part through LIVE voting across the different editions, giving fans the chance to have their say in the competition. Viewers will also be able to access 24×7 LIVE Feeds, allowing Bigg Boss followers to keep up with more of the conversations, drama and action taking place inside the house beyond the main episodes.
Punjabi and South Asian Entertainment Comes Together
JioHotstar’s catalogue extends far beyond reality television. Original series including Criminal Justice, Special Ops, Asur and Aarya sit alongside reality favourites such as Koffee with Karan, Khatron Ke Khiladi, MTV Hustle, Splitsvilla and Roadies. Punjabi cinema also features within the announced catalogue, with films including Jatt & Juliet 1 & 2, Carry On Jatta 3, Shadaa and Sardar Saab giving Punjabi audiences plenty to explore. Programming from major JioStar television channels including Star Plus, Colors, Star Vijay, Asianet, Star Jalsha, Star Gold and Star Pravah will also be available, bringing popular Indian television closer to UK viewers.
JioHotstar Expands its Partnership with Sky
The launch also strengthens JioHotstar’s presence on Sky. Eligible Sky TV customers will continue to receive JioStar channels within their subscriptions, while customers using Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream can subscribe directly to the JioHotstar app.
JioHotstar has introduced a £19.99 quarterly plan and a £69.99 annual subscription for UK customers. Existing Hotstar subscribers can continue using their current monthly subscription while auto-renewal remains active and can use their existing credentials.
With a huge multilingual catalogue, Punjabi favourites, interactive Bigg Boss features and increased accessibility through Sky, the UK launch represents an important new chapter for JioHotstar and gives British South Asian audiences another way to stay connected with some of their favourite entertainment.
