In a historic milestone, Punjabi music star Shubh has been named the first Indian musician to be appointed as a United Nations Global Ambassador for the Digital Climate Library (DCL).
The announcement was made during COP29, the 29th Conference of the Parties, organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Shubh’s appointment underscores the growing influence of music in addressing global challenges and highlights the potential for South Asian representation on international platforms.
Shubh joins a distinguished group of global icons—including Leonardo DiCaprio, BTS, and Billie Eilish—working with the UNFCCC to combat climate change. With over 20 billion digital impressions and 5 billion music streams, his vast global reach and personal connection to sustainability make him a fitting advocate for the DCL. This initiative aims to digitize and preserve critical climate archives, ensuring accessibility to educators, policymakers, and activists worldwide.
As a Global Ambassador, Shubh will use his platform to engage young audiences and inspire action toward climate resilience. “Growing up in an academic environment taught me the value of knowledge preservation,” Shubh shared. “Through this role, I hope to amplify conversations on climate change and inspire a movement that works for a better future for all.”
The appointment is a significant moment for Punjabi music, showcasing its growing influence on the global stage. It emphasizes how South Asian culture and art can contribute meaningfully to international issues, strengthening cultural representation while addressing urgent climate concerns.
