Rani Mukerji Returns as Shivani Roy in Mardaani 3

Yash Raj Films has officially announced the release date of Mardaani 3, confirming that the much-anticipated third chapter of the franchise will arrive in cinemas on 30 January. The announcement was accompanied by a striking new poster, offering a glimpse into the darker and more urgent tone of the upcoming film.

The Mardaani franchise has carved out a unique place in Hindi cinema over the last decade, becoming one of the most successful and recognisable female-led series. At the centre of the story is Rani Mukerji, who once again reprises her role as fearless police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy. Known for her uncompromising pursuit of justice, the character has resonated strongly with audiences for her grit, moral clarity and emotional depth.

The newly revealed poster places Mukerji front and centre, surrounded by images of missing girls, visually underlining the film’s core conflict. The imagery hints at a race against time, with Shivani drawn into a dangerous mission to rescue multiple victims. According to the studio, the story pushes the character into one of her most intense challenges yet.

Describing the film’s premise, Yash Raj Films stated that Mardaani 3 will see Shivani facing

“a brutal and time-sensitive case that forces her into a relentless pursuit against sinister forces.”

The third instalment is directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra. While earlier films in the series tackled different forms of crime, Mardaani 3 is expected to expand the scale and urgency of the narrative, combining investigative tension with emotional stakes.

Reflecting on the franchise’s journey, the studio noted that the film continues the series’ commitment to issue-based storytelling.

“The Mardaani films have always focused on real and uncomfortable realities, and the third chapter continues that legacy with an even sharper edge,”

the production house said in its release.

The original Mardaani explored the grim realities of human trafficking, while Mardaani 2 delved into the psychology of a violent criminal who openly challenged the system. With Mardaani 3, the focus shifts towards a large-scale rescue mission, placing both the victims and the protagonist under constant pressure as time runs out.

Over the years, Shivani Shivaji Roy has become one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic law-enforcement characters, largely due to Mukerji’s restrained yet powerful performances. Her return is expected to draw strong interest from both long-time fans of the franchise and audiences seeking grounded, socially relevant cinema.

With its January 30 release date now locked, Mardaani 3 positions itself as one of the first major theatrical releases of the year, continuing Yash Raj Films’ long-running association with impactful storytelling driven by strong female leads.
