Sports: Pakistani-Origin Zidane Iqbal Signs Professional Contract with Manchester United

Zidane Iqbal, who is of Pakistani origin, has signed his first professional contract with Manchester United.

The 17-year-old has penned professional terms at Old Trafford, by signing a contract with Manchester United after impressing in the club’s youth teams.

Iqbal has joined several others in signing new deals in 2021, but while Iqbal has not played for the Under-18s since December 2020 owing to injury, he is expected to regain fitness soon.

The announcement comes after the club’s continual recognition for the teenager’s talent as an attacking midfielder, and decided to sign the player contractually to oversee his development.

The teen had started seven times for the Under-18s before he suffered an injury in December and made his debut at that level when he was just 16 last year.

Taking to Instagram, Iqbal posted: “Delighted to announce I’ve signed my first professional contract with my boyhood club @manchesterunited hard work continues.”

Iqbal’s representatives, Base Soccer, tweeted: “Many congratulations to Zidane Iqbal, who has signed his first professional contract with Manchester United. Well done Zee!”

One excited Twitter user took to the platform to share the news which garnered over 16K likes in over 24 hours. Ishraq said: “This man’s name is Zidane Iqbal. He’s a 17 year old pakistani boy who just signed his first professional contract for Manchester United. A proud day for the South Asian community […] Hope he does well for us!”

United intend to promote Iqbal to the Under-23 squad next season as he turns 18 later this month.
