Vijay Varma reveals Shah Rukh Khan was interested in playing Hamza in ‘Darlings’

Actor Vijay Varma is currently riding high on the success of his recently released film ‘Darlings’. The actor was seen alongside Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah. He essayed the role of an abusive husband to Alia’s character. His negative performance in the film has received rave reviews from the audience. In a recent interview, Vijay revealed that Shah Rukh Khan, who has backed the film, wanted to do his part in ‘Darlings’. Vijay also said that he was scared to play a negative character like Hamza as it would receive hatred from the audience.

During an interview with Film Companion, Vijay recalled that someone from Shah Rukh’s production house told him that when the superstar read the script, he was like ‘agar main young hota toh ye role main hi karta’. Vijay revealed that it was one of the reasons that made him feel that he can do the role. He thought if Shah Rukh Khan thinks he can do it, being an absolute lover-boy, national sweetheart, he can do it too. He also said that he was scared to do it, but he’s glad that it has hit the nail in the right place. Vijay also went on to reveal that he thought his career would end after doing ‘Darlings’ because a performance that creates that kind of hate and dread is scary for an actor.

‘Darlings’ was released on August 5 on an OTT platform.

On the work front, Vijay has ‘Devotion of Suspect X’ with Kareena Kapoor Khan and ‘Mirzapur 3’.
