Watch: Tesher Collaborates with Jason Derulo for ‘Jalebi Baby’ Music Video

Canadian musician Tesher and R&B artist Jason Derulo have collaborated on the viral hit Jalebi Baby and launched a music video.

Hitesh Sharma, recognised by his stage name Tesher, released the original audio last year in November after producing the track from his parents’ basement.

After two of Tesher’s songs went viral on TikTok in 2020, the South Asian-Canadian rapper and producer from Regina entered the U.S. Top 40 charts and has now launched a music video starring Jason Derulo.

The new song is performed and penned by Tesher and Derulo and is produced by Tesher. The female vocalists feature Shweta Subram and Neha Sharma is directed by Gil Green.

The self-styled ‘Bollywood Hollywood duo’ also performed the track live on NBC’s The Today Show on 7 July, marking Tesher’s first televised live performance.

In an article published by CBC News, Sharma said: “Honestly, I love the fact that I’m in this part of my career, a music video with Jason Derulo, Top 40 record. But I’m here in Regina in my basement and my mom is, like, giving me breakfast before she leaves for work.”

“When I had that first breakthrough record I was home with my entire family together, and they were supporting me all through it,” he added.

The publication explained in late March, Derulo heard the song on Shazam and contacted Sharma. He called Jalebi Baby a kind of song he’d “never heard before”, and asked to get involved.

“I think he kind of keeps his ear to the streets and sees what’s hot internationally,” said Sharma. “And Jalebi Baby was hitting number one in a lot of countries on Shazam.”

As per pandemic, the two musicians began collaborating over Zoom, with Sharma in his Regina basement and Derulo at his home studio in Los Angeles.

The new rendition of the song featuring Derulo’s vocals released in May.
