How To Detox Your Skin For The New Year

It’s that time again, January detox! I’m pretty sure that we can all agree that our skin isn’t feeling as fresh and new as we’d want it to going into the new year. Over the festive period we all over indulge in food and drink (and why not) but it does take its toll.  There are a few products which can help you revive your skin and give a fresh, new glow for the new decade!

A quick and easy product to start off with is the ‘Disciple Clary Essential Oil- Clary Sage.’ This little gem works as quick as your afternoon coffee, and all you have to do is apply a tiny amount onto a cotton pad and slightly inhale it. It gets to work straight away as it makes you feel more relaxed and at ease! This is a great ‘pick-me-up’ item to buy as it internally makes you feel good- you can even put this in your bag and use it at least twice throughout the day. And the great thing is- it’s only £14!

A fairly new product that I have found works amazingly to tackle dark spots and hyperpigmentation is the ‘Inkey List- Tranexamic Acid.’ This product markets at the price of £14.99. As well as this I found the Tranexamic Acid helps to brighten and even your skin tone. Typically, it’s a worry that acid-based products like this can damage your skin in the sun, however this product isn’t as harsh- it’s a safe product to use unlike other acid based products. But I would still recommend putting on some form of SPF during the day. When you begin to start using the product apply a small amount once a week and eventually build up the amount you use and how frequently you use it. The product works perfect on all skin types, so definitely give this one a try!

I absolutely love the ‘Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench- Hyaluronic Cloud Cream.’ When I tried the cream I felt like went into my skin so easily and left it feeling like silk. The product actually keeps your skin feeling like this for up to 72 hours. Another thing I love about this cream is that it doesn’t leave your skin looking or feeling greasy, as it keeps its hydrating feel throughout the day. Another perk of this product is that it works beautifully as a primer for makeup- it keeps your makeup in place and keeps your skin feeling hydrated underneath. It’s small and simple packaging makes it easier for you to carry in your bag or to even take with you on holiday. I would 100% recommend this if you’ve felt like your skin has been feeling dehydrated.

Most Asians tend to struggle with dark under-eyes and this next product really helps your skin tone look more even. This is another must-buy and a very popular product- ‘The Ordinary Caffeine Solution’ works to reduce dark circles under the eyes as well as getting rid of any puffiness. This is perfect to buy going into the new year because it gives you the ‘new year, new me’ vibe that everybody is always after! All you have to do is apply a small amount underneath the eye and gently massage the product outwards- after two to three weeks you can really start to see the results because it really brightens the under-eye up. This tends to be sold at around £5-7 depending on where you buy it from.

A newly discovered favourite of mine is a mixture of the ‘Indian Aztec clay mask’ from Amazon (£19.99) you will need apple cider vinegar from Holland and Barrett (£6.99). So the clay mask comes as a powder so you have to mix it with the apple cider vinegar- what I usually do is I put one scoop of the clay mask powder into a bowl and mix it in with one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. The key thing with this is, you need to make sure the consistency isn’t too runny or overly thick, so just add the amount needed of either product to get a smooth and even consistency. I’d usually leave this on for 15 minutes because my skin is fairly sensitive but you can keep it on for up to 20 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Usually I’d do this two times a week as the apple cider vinegar can be kind of harsh on the skin- but for aftercare, you can use rose water toner to balance this and it keeps your skin protected. It leaves your face feeling cleansed and brighter as it takes out most impurities. Then always moisturise your skin. Who doesn’t love a quick and easy cheeky face mask?
