Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ flops at box office

After initially gaining a lot of hype pre-release, the film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ – the story of the 12th-century king Prithviraj Chauhan’s reign and love story – has ultimately flopped at the box office, with reports from India claiming that cinemas were cancelling showings of the film due to lack of ticket sales, with other reports from film critics calling the film ‘soulless’, ‘tedious’ and ‘simplistic’.

Part of the reason why ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ has unfortunately flopped could be due to Akshay’s controversial comments prior to the film’s release where he said, “History textbooks are filled with information on Mughal invaders, but have little on the glory and valour of Hindu kings such as Prithviraj Chauhan”.
