During a recent interview, actor Anil Kapoor opened up about his co-star Tom Cruise and how people’s perception of the Hollywood star has evolved over time. Anil and Tom had worked together in the movie Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, released in 2011, where Anil played the character Brij Nath.
Anil Kapoor mentioned that in the past, some people in Bollywood used to make snide remarks about Tom Cruise. However, he observed that those very people have now become fans of the actor.
Anil expressed his admiration for Hollywood films and eagerly looks forward to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, Oppenheimer, as well as Tom Cruise’s action-packed films.
“I am looking forward to Christopher Nolan’s (Oppenheimer) — I always look forward to all his films. I look forward to Tom Cruise’s films, the kind of action he’s done. These are the people whom I really look up to, Anil Kapoor said.
Recalling his experience working with Tom Cruise in Ghost Protocol, Anil shared that his colleagues were skeptical about Tom’s greatness, but he was confident that they would see for themselves. Now, after the success of Top Gun: Maverick, everyone is singing Tom’s praises.
Speaking of the same, Anil Kapoor said, “I was very fortunate when I did (Ghost Protocol), and when I spoke to my then colleagues, they said ‘Nahi nahi yaar, woh baat nahi hai (he isn’t that great).’ I said, ‘Pata chalega aapko (you will find out).’ Now everybody’s a fan after Top Gun: Maverick.”
Anil Kapoor also revealed that he encouraged his industry friends to explore international projects, but initially, they were content with working in India.
“I told them ‘International kaam bhi karo (try international projects),’ they said, ‘Nahi hum India main theek hai (we are fine in India).’ Later I realised that everyone secretly went to Los Angeles, everybody went to Netflix and Amazon,” Anil added.
