Welcome Bhangra Nation, a brand new musical hosted by Birmingham Rep from 17th February to 16th March 2024.
It is a vibrant, potent tale about discovering your real self with tonnes of enthusiasm and excitement!
Following their American collegiate Bhangra team’s qualification for the USA Nationals, Mary and Preeti embark on divergent journeys to dance to their own beat.
Bhangra Nation – A New Musical is a bold, energising, and exuberant musical comedy, that
blends competitive Bhangra with other Indian and Western dance genres as well as
honouring the customs we inherit and those we create ourselves.
An international creative team was assembled to create this thrilling new musical with
directing from Stafford Arima, working alongside Tony and Grammy Award-winning
producers Mara Isaacs and Tom Kirdahy.
Combined with superb talent from Jena Pandya as Mary, Siobhan Athwal as Sunita, Ivan
Fernandez Gonzalez as Billy and Zaynah Ahmed as Preeti, this musical is certainly one to
watch.
After BritAsia were lucky enough to attend an event at The Rep providing a taster of what
we can expect from this musical, including a small but brilliant dance performance and a talk with the faces behind the creativity, such as those who wrote the book; Rehana Lew Mirza and Mike Lew and choreographer, Rujuta Vaidya, we truly cannot wait to see the full thing!
