The Boycott trend has been worrying Bollywood more than ever. For the last couple of months, a section of netizens started trending #Boycott for the films that are allegedly made by an ‘anti-national’ team or feature star kids or feature content that is against a particular religion.
Already, Bollywood is struggling to score a blockbuster post the pandemic. Now, the boycott trends are affecting the opening collections of many films. The recent victims of this Boycott trend are Laal Singh Chaddha and Liger.
If there were no call to boycott these films, they would have at least got good openings. But massive boycott trends regarding these films made people not enter the theatres on release day. Thus, both films ended up as financial failures.
Now, Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra is facing the heat. The Boycott gang wants people not to watch these films because it features ‘nepo’ kids Ranbir and Alia Bhatt, and it is produced by ‘nepo’ godfather Karan Johar.
The netizens also dug out old interviews in which Alia said that people who want to watch her film will come to the theatres and she doesn’t care about the rest. In another old interview, she says there is no need to remember the name of India’s president. The Boycott gang is circulating these videos virally on social media and is requesting people not to watch this film.
Brahmastra is one of the most expensive films made in Indian cinema. If it gets affected by the Boycott gang, then Bollywood will surely be in deep trouble. Directed by Ayan Mukherjee, Brahmastra is slated for a worldwide release on September 9.
