Diljit Dosanjh to start Chamkila shoot in November

Diljit Dosanjh is all set to begin work on slain Punjabi singer and cult figure Chamkila’s biopic. The actor had, earlier this month, posted a couple of photographs of sound recording of the film with composer AR Rahman, clearly hinting at the start of work on the project.

Imtiaz Ali has been working on the casting of the film and has managed to get artists from Punjab.

The filmmaker had earlier said that he had planned to start shooting for the film in September but now ETimes has learnt that film will finally go on floor in the second week of November. The shoot will start from Mumbai, in a film studio and not with live locations of Punjab, as many believed.

Those in the trade feel that since the Punjabi singer Chamkila was shot dead like Sidhu Moosewala, there is a chance people will draw similarities between their stories. Perhaps that is the reason why Imitiaz Ali and the makers of the film have not made an official announcement for the film’s shoot.

Amar Singh Chamkila was a cult figure even when he was alive with his band performing to packed houses across Punjab. Unfortunately, Chamkila, along with his wife and two other members of their band were assassinated in 1988. The murder case still remains unresolved.
