Godzilla x Kong – “RISE TOGETHER OR FALL ALONE”

Coming to theatres in Spring 2024, Godzilla X Kong The New Empire follows on from the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs Kong. However, this time, the new cinematic adventure will see all-mighty Kong and fearsome Godzilla joining forces to combat a massive undiscovered threat.

Not only will this film dig deeper into the histories of these titans and their origins, but it will also explore the secrets of Skull Island and beyond. Whilst unveiling the mythological struggle that forged these exceptional beings and linked them to humankind forever, the real question everyone’s asking, is whether the two monsters will once again be enemies or if they will form an alliance to take on a new threat and save their respective domains.

Adam Wingard, who directed the 2021 feature film; Godzilla vs Kong, has, much to the delight of many fans, returned to the helm for this new and upcoming film, promising to answer and explore many unresolved questions. Speaking openly to Deadline, Adam has said, regarding directing the next film and the unanswered ‘mystery’ within this one…

I would absolutely love to continue. The clear starting point we teed up, exploring Hollow Earth, I think there is a lot more to do there. This is a pre-history of Planet Earth, where all the titans come from. We tee up some mystery in this film, things I want to see resolved and explored and pushed to the next level. If I have the opportunity, I know what I will do.”

Working closely with Adam were three incredibly talented writers; Terry Rossio, Simon Barrett and Jeremey Slater who have been recognised for wonderfully encapsulating the legacy of The MonsterVerse multimedia franchise.

Alongside Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle who are reprising their 2021 roles as Dr. Illene Andrews, Bernie Hayes and Jia, newcomers Dan Stevens and Fala Chen are welcomed into this incredible universe.

“The New Empire” will mark the 38th film in the entire Godzilla franchise, which originated from Japan back in 1954. This will also mark the 13th film in the King Kong franchise which began in the U.S. in 1933.

The major focus remains on the monsters rather than the humans, although, there have been some significant updates regarding who will appear alongside these creatures. Headlining this news is a brand-new lead character in Legion’s Dan Stevens who is playing the main protagonist.

Filming for this sequel began in July 2022 with the production primarily taking place in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia; filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.

Godzilla X Kong The New Empire is set to be released on 12th April 2024 in the UK and 26th April 2024 in Japan.

Although there are still a fair few months before its release in the new year, “The New Empire” will be in cinemas before we know it!

Keep an eye out for any updates over the following months to learn everything you need to know before its launch.
