Social media giants Snapchat change the game….again!

Having debuted and received a huge amount of success with their unique and original social platform, Snapchat are set to change the game once again by introducing Spectacles – their first hardware product for their millions and millions of users worldwide.

In a statement posted on the Snapchat website, the concept of the product seems very simple.

“Imagine one of your favourite memories. What if you could go back and see that memory the way you experienced it? That’s why we built Spectacles. Spectacles are sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories. We’ve created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses – available in 3 different colours! Spectacles connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfer your Memories directly into the app in our brand new circular video format. Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view. We can’t wait for you to see it!”

The product is unique in true Snapchat fashion. Users can snap at a flick of a button, which will then wirelessly transfer to your phone and be able to view, edit and send within the Snapchat app in a folder called ‘Specs’ – embedded in the ‘Memories’ section. Spectacles come in a case, which can be used to charge them. The new product seems very attractive, but won’t be cheap as they are estimated to cost Snapchat users $129.

The idea of wireless glasses seem very cool, however this isn’t the first time something like this has been introduced after Google introduced ‘Google Glass’ in 2013 – but never took off with the general public after a hefty $1,500 price tag.
