On Wednesday 24th August, the UK Bhangra industry united to pay their final respects to a legend of UK Bhangra, Balwinder Safri. The funeral begun with Balwinder Safri visiting his house, before making his way to Baba Deep Singh Ji Gurdwara, Handsworth where thousands attended. Artists from the 80’s/90’s such as Apna Sangeet, Heera, Alaap and Geet The Mega Band turned up as well as current starts of the music industry such as Lehember Hussainpuri, Sukshinder Shinda, JK, Jaz Dhami, H Dhami and others who emotionally said goodbye to a friend, icon and industry leader.
Emotional tributes followed at the Sandwell Valley Crematorium where not only his family delivered an emotional speech but also the Safri Boyz (who also carried his coffin in). Though Balwinder Safri may have physically left us, he will forever live on in the hearts of fans, friends and family through his music and memories.
