“Very Skilled Indian Pilot There”: Reporter Praises Air India Landing in Heathrow Amid Storm Eunice

Two Air India pilots who landed their Boeing Dreamliner aircraft amid Storm Eunice have been praised for their deft handling.

Captains Anchit Bhardwaj and Aditya Rao demonstrated adeptness as they successfully descended their plane into London’s Heathrow on Friday around noon (18 February), despite Storm Eunice leaving hundreds of flights delayed or cancelled.

As the storm buffeted the Heathrow runway 27L, ‘Big Jet TV’, a YouTube channel that livestreams aircraft landings and take-offs, commended the Air India pilots.

“Very skilled Indian pilot there,” the commentator said.

Air India too praised its pilots: “Our skilled pilots landed in London when many other airlines couldn’t,” said an Air India official.

Storm Eunice triggered the first-ever ‘red’ weather warning for London on Friday. It was one of the most powerful tempests in Europe since the “Great Storm” hit Britain and northern France in 1987.

According to reports, three people have died as a result. Gale-force winds from Storm Eunice toppled trees and sent debris flying, causing the deaths of a woman in her 30s in London, a man in his 20s in Hampshire, and a man in his 50s in Merseyside.

Five people died elsewhere in Europe.
