Will Smith Arrives in Mumbai, Marking First Public Appearance Since Oscars Slapgate

Will Smith was pictured at a Mumbai airport this weekend – marking the actor’s first public appearance since he struck Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars last month.

The King Richard star was spotted taking photos with fans and security at a private airfield in Mumbai, India on Saturday (April 23).

His arrival in India marks Smith’s first public appearance since he infamously slapped comedian Chris Rock during the live televised Oscars ceremony in March.

While it is not immediately clear why Will is in India, the actor appeared to be in good spirits as he smiled and waved at fans. The Fresh Prince star sported a white t-shirt, gray shorts, white tights and a pair of sneakers.

This isn’t the Hollywood megastar’s first trip to India, however, as he’d previously visited the country in 2019 to film his reality show The Bucket List, during which he had also met a few Bollywood celebrities and shot a cameo in a song for Student Of The Year 2.

Smith had also paid a visit to Haridwar, where he reportedly met a guru. Smith had later said that a trip to India awakened a new understanding of himself, his art and the “truth of the world”.

In a carousel of pictures he posted at the time, he wrote: “My Grandmother used to say, “God Teaches through Experience”. Traveling to India & Experiencing the colors, people and natural beauty has awakened a new understanding of myself, my Art & the Truths of the world.”

Smith, won the Oscar for Best Actor, resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences days after the ceremony and issued a public apology to Chris on Instagram.
The star has also been banned from attending any Academy events – including the Oscars – for the next 10 years.
